Costa Rica 2003
Home | Trip Summary
This section is about my short trip to Costa Rica in February 2003.
It was the first time I had travelled again since my six month trip. For a while I didn't have the desire to go anywhere but during the British winters, I like to go to the tropics and Costa Rica is known for its prolific wildlife (and I'm a big wildlife fan). It was the combination of this, the weather, the tropical rainforests, beaches and scenery that attracted me to Costa Rica.
I had heard many negative things about the country, such as the fact that it's too touristy, too expensive, has no culture and nasty food and that countries such as Panama were better alternatives. I was undetered because, despite this, I knew Costa Rica had a lot of attractions that would interest me. And I was right.
Although much of the above was true, I didn't go to Costa Rica for the culture or to sample good food. I did however, hike through probably the prettiest rainforests I've ever been to, see stunning scenery in the form of volcanos and the very green and lush rural areas in the south and the east, and last but not least and observed diverse and large concentrations of animals.
