India 2001-2
I flew into Delhi and based myself here for a few days, visiting Corbett national park and sites in Old Delhi and New Delhi. From there I caught the train to Jodhpur. During the few days here I did a village safari before moving on to Jaisalmer on the edge of the Thar desert. A group of us did a three day camel safari. I then took a bus to Udaipur, where I ended up staying for six days. From there I did day trips to Jaisamand Lake and the impressive temples at Ranakpur.
Some friends in Bombay invited me to spend new year's eve with them. I spent just one night and one day there before boarding a train for 24 hour journey back up to Rajasthan. My destination was Ranthambhore national park, and then to the quiet and charming little town of Bundi. From there I took a bus to Pushkar, and then on to Japiur, the state capital. The next day I took the afternoon train to Agra for the Taj Mahal before catching the overnight train to my final Indian destination, Varanasi. This was a very special place but also very hard work and I was ready to leave India when I caught a bus across the border to Pokhara in Nepal.
