The Interior
These are from my summer trip in July 2008, and also from a day trip to Lakagígar.
Lakagígar is the site of one the biggest eruptions in recorded history. In 1783 the eruption spread ash throughout Europe and north America, and wiped out a quarter of Iceland's population. On the day I visited, the moss had become a vivid green due to recent heavy rainfall.
During the summer tour, we left Landmannalauger and boarded a bus north along Highway F26, passing between two large glaciers on the way to Mývatn. Then we took a three day tour to Askja caldera and Kverkfjöll, on the northern edge of Vatnajökull galcier.
