The South Coast
Scenery from Iceland's South Coast in summer and winter.
I made several trips over a period of 12 months. On two occasions my destination was Jökulsárlón, the glacial lagoon about 400km from Reykjavik.
There are plenty of places to stop at along the way, including Skaftafell National Park, the cliffs at Dyrholaey and numerous waterfalls. Even when there was nothing in particular to see, I was frequently stopping to admire the scenery on route.
Most of these places are on or near Highway 1, the main road which circles the entire island.
